  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for coating)
  • Gel food coloring in pastel shades

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each, then mix in vanilla and almond extracts.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, then add gel food coloring to the desired hue.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Prep your baking and rolling station with powdered sugar.
  8. Form tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls and coat in powdered sugar.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the tops are crinkled.
  10. Cool on baking sheets briefly before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

Chilling the dough is key to achieving the perfect crinkles. Feel free to add lemon zest or chocolate chips for variations.
