Strawberry Chocolate Cake

A delightful blend of moist chocolate cake layered with creamy strawberry frosting and topped with fresh strawberries.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup homemade strawberry jam
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup strawberry puree

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prep your pans.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Mix the wet ingredients in another bowl.
  4. Combine the wet and dry mixtures until just mixed.
  5. Add the boiling water to the batter.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes and then on a wire rack.
  8. Make the strawberry frosting by beating cream cheese and butter, then adding powdered sugar and strawberry puree.
  9. Assemble the cake with frosting and sliced strawberries.
  10. Decorate as desired with more strawberries or chocolate ganache.

Notes

For variations, try using mixed berries, chocolate ganache, or making it vegan or gluten-free.
