Chocolate Caramel Cake

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup milk (for the frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans with grease and flour.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl until well combined.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients in another bowl and mix together.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently, then add boiling water.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Make the frosting by creaming together softened butter and caramel sauce, then add powdered sugar and milk.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes with the caramel frosting.
  10. Decorate with additional caramel sauce and chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

For variations, consider adding nuts to the batter or using espresso powder for a mocha flavor.
