The Irresistible Cruffin

A delightful pastry combining the flaky goodness of croissants and muffins, filled with a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture and topped with powdered sugar.

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry
  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Eggs (optional for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Thaw the Puff Pastry: If you’re using frozen puff pastry, take it out of the freezer and let it thaw according to package instructions.
  2. Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  3. Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon.
  4. Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
  5. Brush with Butter: Melt about 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, and use a pastry brush to spread it evenly over the surface of the pastry.
  6. Sprinkle Filling: Generously sprinkle your cinnamon-sugar mixture over the entire surface.
  7. Roll It Up: Starting from one long edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log.
  8. Cut the Log: Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Shape the Cruffins: Take each piece and gently twist it, then tuck the ends into a greased muffin tin.
  10. Brush with Egg Wash (optional): Lightly brush the tops of the cruffin with beaten egg.
  11. Bake: Pop your muffin tin in the oven for about 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Cool & Dust: Let the cruffins cool and dust with powdered sugar and a splash of vanilla.

Notes

For a twist, try different fillings like chocolate hazelnut or fruit preserves. Baking should be joyous and let your creativity shine!
