Refreshing Mint and Basil Lemonade with Honey Simple Syrup

A refreshing and herbal lemonade made with fresh mint and basil, sweetened with honey simple syrup, perfect for any sunny occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 4 cups water
  • Ice cubes
  • Sparkling water (optional)
  • Vodka (optional, for cocktail variation)

Instructions

  1. Make the Honey Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the honey with 1/2 cup of water. Heat over medium-low, stirring until the honey dissolves completely.
  2. Prepare the Fresh Herbs: Rinse your fresh mint and basil leaves thoroughly under cold water. Pat them dry gently with a paper towel.
  3. Muddle the Herbs: In a large pitcher, add the mint and basil leaves. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently press the herbs to release their essential oils.
  4. Combine the Ingredients: Pour the freshly squeezed lemon juice into the pitcher, followed by the honey simple syrup you made earlier. Then add the remaining 3.5 cups of water. Stir everything together until well blended.
  5. Taste and Adjust: Take a little taste and see if it needs more sweetness or a bit more tartness. Feel free to add more honey or lemon juice based on your preference!
  6. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate your concoction for at least 30 minutes. Strain the lemonade to remove the herb bits if desired.

Notes

For a fun twist, try adding citrus juice, berries, or cucumbers to the lemonade. Serve with mint leaves or lemon slices for garnish.
