A comforting Hamburger Potato Casserole, perfect for chilly evenings, combining ground beef, creamy potatoes, and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (preferably 85/15)
  • 4 medium potatoes (russet or Yukon gold, peeled and sliced thin)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 to 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Garlic powder (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Sauté the chopped onions with the beef for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
  5. Layer the dish: start with a layer of sliced potatoes, followed by half of the beef and onion mixture, then sprinkle with cheese. Repeat with remaining potatoes and beef, finishing with cheese on top.
  6. Add the melted butter and pour the milk over the layers.
  7. Bake covered with aluminum foil for 40 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and the potatoes fork-tender.
  8. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
